Military Makeover Willett Family

Military Makeover Family – The Willett Family of Ashville, N.Y.

Military Makeover with Montel is a TV show on Lifetime that seeks to help this country’s servicemen and women who’ve sacrificed a lot for this country. As a home improvement series, Military Makeover goes around the nation, rebuilding veterans’ homes, repaying them for what they’ve given during their time in service.

MyComputerCareer is an organization that provides technical training, certification preparation and job placement support for adult learners and veterans looking to enter the Information Technology (IT) industry, as well as professionals seeking career advancement. The company has partnered up with Military Makeover to sponsor veteran families across the nation. We do not only sponsor these families, but also send our team of contractors, home improvement professionals, and landscapers to see the projects through.

Cody Willett – Air Force weapons supply technician for Special Operations

The next family that Military Makeover and MyComputerCareer are sponsoring are the Willetts of Ashville, N.Y. Cody Willett was barely a couple of years out of High School back in 2009 when he was stationed in Afghanistan. Four months into his second overseas deployment and serving as an Air Force weapons supply technician for Special Operations teams, Cody’s base was attacked.

He was severely injured by a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) explosion and was left with a damaged ankle, dislocated shoulder, and a fracture to his lower spine. After the attack, he was evacuated to Germany, then to the United States for treatment. Aside from his physical trauma, Cody Willett has also developed Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a psychological condition that affects many veterans.

“It has been a long, hard, uphill battle,” Cody said.

Today, Cody works for the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office as a Computer Specialist. He is currently studying IT as part of MyComputerCareer Education for Veterans Program looking to start a career in the field of digital forensics for the state of New York or the FBI.

The Willett Family

Cody met his wife Jessica when he was recovering from his wounds in the United States. She is a friend of his sister’s who both visited him while in the hospital. Together, they have a 3-year-old son named Carter and a baby girl on the way. When asked about Jessica, Cody had this to say:

“My wife has been my rock through all of my issues, and she is the real hero. It is hard to have to deal with work, children, life’s everyday problems and then to have a husband that is mentally suffering. That is something she signed up for not knowing what it all entailed. I have never really asked for any help before, but I would try just about anything to repay my wife for all she does for me.”

The Willetts would want to make their home as comfortable as possible for their growing family. But with a baby on the way and having to deal with Cody’s medical issues, the home improvement project has been put on hold. Luckily, however, with the help of Military Makeover and MyComputerCareer, they will have the home they always wanted, all the while working towards Cody’s new civilian career aspirations.
