What is the Information Technology Security and Administration Program

What is the Information Technology Security and Administration Program?

Students who complete our Information Technology Security and Administration (ITSA) program become qualified for positions such as Network Administration, I.T. Security, and Helpdesk. They gain core competencies and certifications that will help them launch a career or switch careers in I.T., as well as advance their career later on. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job market for information security professionals will grow by 32% between 2018 and 2028.

Our ITSA program includes preparations for 9 certifications from CompTIA, Microsoft, and Linux designed for networking, system security, and support. The only prerequisite for this program is a GED or High School diploma. Upon completing the program, you’ll have gained understanding, knowledge, and skills in:

  • Basic hardware installation
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Networking
  • Configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and securing of computer networks and information systems

Certifications and Jobs Attainable through ITSA Program

1.   MTA (Microsoft Technology Associate) – I.T. Infrastructure

The MTA certifications provide MTA Networking and Security Fundamentals and may qualify you for job positions in:

  • Desktop Support
  • Desktop Deployment
  • Identity and Access Management
  • Server Administration
  • Systems and Network Administration
  • Security Administration

Some of the jobs that you can land thanks to your MTA-based certifications include:

Network Administrator

Network administrators are professionals that have dedicated knowledge of different I.T.-based resources, but are mainly concerned with the installation, implementation, development or deployment of networking systems. Also, they are responsible for managing those information systems and incorporating different layers of cyber security within the systems to stop or prevent cyber-attacks.

The MTA certification may help you land an administration or management job at any organization or enterprise.

IT Security Specialist

After you receive your MTA certification, you can also work in security administration on developing, implementing, configuring, and deploying different computer and information systems according to your employer’s requirements. Also, you’ll be responsible for performing security tasks, such as installing firewall systems and including other security layers to keep the cyber-attackers at bay.

2.   CompTIA IT Certifications

The CompTIA certification program may qualify you for a promising career as a computer systems administrator in:

  • Systems and Network Administrator
  • Network Installer
  • Network Technician
  • IT Security Specialist
  • IT Support Administrator
  • IT Support Technician
  • IT Technical Support Specialist
  • Helpdesk Technician
  • Field Service Technician

CompTIA+, CompTIA Server+, and CompTIA Network+ are included in MyComputerCareer’s CompTIA certifications.

Some of the jobs that you can land thanks to your CompTIA certifications are:

Enterprise/Systems Architecture

I.T. professionals who hold CompTIA certifications can land a job as a system analyst, where they will be leading the design and implementation of new technologies in their enterprises. Any organization that works to integrate with partner networks (via cloud) or relies on its own network needs someone who will make sure that the infrastructure is adequately designed. I.T. architect roles typically require some combination of these CompTIA certifications.

Helpdesk, support, or services management

Almost 30% of CompTIA-certified I.T. professionals have a career in help desk. Also, the preferred qualifying credential for operational roles and IT support, as well as the foundation of your career in I.T., is the CompTIA A+. An advantage of landing a job in this area is they don’t require having a bachelor’s degree. According to Burning Glass Technologies, a mere 31% of job postings for I.T. support network specialist (help desk) roles request a bachelor’s degree. This means that you may gain a competitive advantage just by validating your skills with a certification like CompTIA A+.

Besides hard skills (strong technical understanding), a help desk technician must also have soft skills. The position requires you to be an excellent communicator. For instance, whenever a user has a question, you must be able to diagnose the issue and explain the solution to the user.

Security management

When it comes to the cyber security job market in the U.S., there are more than 300,000 open cyber security jobs. According to Cyber Seek, there are about 314,000 unfilled cyber security positions in the U.S. The cyber security jobs you could land thanks to CompTIA certifications (among others) are:

  • Systems administrator
  • IT auditor
  • Cyber security analyst
  • Cybersecurity engineer
  • Cybersecurity manager/administrator
  • Network engineer/architect
  • Vulnerability analyst/penetration tester
  • Systems engineer

To become true security professionals, candidates should consider passing security certifications exams for CompTIA CySA+ and CASP+.
