Who is Successful at MyComputerCareer? This Single Mom with Kids Was! How Did She Do It?

It’s Never To Late To Reinvent YOU at MyComputerCareer

I had been laid off from work for 3-4 months in the construction industry. I had been hearing the radio commercials for years and thought… maybe someday.  I didn’t really feel as computer savvy as the folks you see on TV or even some of my own friends. I could do quick fixes and such but nothing major. Then life through another gut-wrenching punch. I became a single Mom with kids. My husband of eight years asked me for a divorce, while I was still unemployed and my unemployment checks were about to run out. He was the one that actually suggested to me that maybe I needed to switch industries, so I could have a stable career in my future. At that moment, I figured why not, I have nothing left to lose. I went online to the MyComputerCareer website and took the career evaluation!

When I arrived at MyComputerCareer it was great from the start, everyone was so nice and friendly. It felt very welcoming and even though they knew I had no experience in this field, they were okay with that. My Admissions Director, Jerold, answered all of my questions and explained how MyComputerCareer could help me gain the knowledge and certifications that I needed to finally achieve the stable and successful career I had been looking for. That is when I decided that they were the school for me.

After a few months of attending school and getting some certifications I needed, Tammie from Career Services, informed me about a short-term contract that would be great for someone like me who needed the experience and skills in this field. With her help, we polished up my resume and applied for it. A few days later, I had landed my first official IT job which helped me tremendously in getting my next job when the contract eventually ended.

During this whole experience, life kept throwing hurdles my way and the instructors and other staff kept me on track with school work. Whether they knew it or not, they even helped me out on a personal and emotional level.  There were days where I felt like giving up. There were many days I didn’t even want to get out of bed. But the drive to see this through and to show my kids, that no matter what happens in life, you CAN keep moving forward…helped me to succeed. When they would struggle or not want to get out of bed and go to school I would remind them that I was going to school too. When they had a hard time with doing homework and taking tests. I showed them I was working on that too. They soon realized that they had to keep going, that we all had to keep working hard for that better and more fun-filled future.

After gaining valuable work experience out in the field, I was asked to come back to school and be a Flex Instructor at MyComputerCareer. I was asked to help out students who are going through all sorts of struggles just like I did and are also trying to change their lives for the better. It was a really good feeling when I could encourage others around me and watch them succeed too.

Since my time as Flex Instructor at MyComputerCareer, I have been continuing my pursuit of more certifications and knowledge in the IT industry, using the tools that MyComputerCareer taught me. Because of this pursuit to better myself, several other companies have approached me. After struggling with the decision to leave MyComputerCareer, I have accepted a position that will be able to show the knowledge and skills that I have learned.  I will be working at Lone Star Community College as a full time Client Technology Technician II earning $45,000 annually.  Thank you all for helping me reach my brighter future!
