Mike Harding

MyComputerCareer Instructor Spotlight: Mike Harding

For the better part of three decades, Mike has provided IT Engineering, Support, Project Management and Educational Services to the Healthcare, Information Technology and Higher Education fields. After earning dual undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and Management Information Systems in 1992, he went to work supporting mainframe computers and data migrations in the dye industry in North Carolina. Recognizing business was trending toward decentralized computing, he began pursuing expertise in the client-server world.

Much like our students, Mike self-funded his first IT certification in 1996, a Certified Netware Engineer certification in Novel Networks. Mike helped pioneer the adoption of Microsoft Server-based IT systems and the migration to TCP/IP as a networking protocol in Florida and in Michigan.

As a member of the DynamicVision® deployment team for Dynamic Healthcare Solutions, Mike provided front line technical support to the Pre-sales, Sales and Deployment teams for one of the earliest implementations of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) at healthcare providers such as Providence Medical Centers in Southfield Michigan, University of Illinois, Chicago and Midland Hospital in Midland, OH.

As Project Manager for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Mike led a team of eight engineers in the installation of the Picture Archive and Communication Systems (PACS) at Orange Park Medical Center, it’s ancillary Imaging Centers, and its Physicians Groups in the Jacksonville, Florida area. Mike has provided Education services in Cisco and Microsoft Networking and Security Services as a certified instructor since the mid-1990s.

In 2009, after earning his master’s degree in healthcare administration from Webster University, Mike accepted the position of Director of Education at Medtech College in Greenwood, IN. Within 18 months, he was promoted to Campus President of the 750 student, 100+ faculty member organization. Guiding the education of Nursing and Allied Health professionals provided him with a means to transfer his experience to those who would carry on in the medical profession.

“I am an educator, not because it is my job, but because it is who I am. I am so proud to work with the students and Staff here at the Indy campus. The single greatest non-family experience in my life is watching the “lights” go on in someone’s head when they learn something new; and I am lucky enough to have that experience daily. Despite what Ellen DeGeneres might say, I actually have the best job in the world.”
