We love catching up with students and grads because they have so many stories and successes to share, and Chandler Growald’s journey is a perfect example! We were lucky enough to virtually “sit down” with Chandler to discuss where he was, why he decided to make a change, and where he’s thriving now. Let’s dig in.
MyCC: Let’s talk about your background a bit if you don’t mind. You’re an Army veteran who was working to find your “next” during the transition to civilian life. Tell us a bit about that.
Chandler: Sure…yes, after I transitioned out of the military I was able to spend a rewarding year as a stay-at-home dad then I decided to get my Class A CDL (commercial driver’s license) and started working as a relief truck driver. But I always had a deep passion for computers and knew I wanted to get into IT and cybersecurity, so I was exploring my options while working.
MyCC: Eventually you landed on MyComputerCareer as your school of choice. What led you to that big decision?
Chandler: As mentioned I wanted to turn my passion for computers into a fulfilling career and I knew the IT industry would offer both a challenge and job security. When I researched different programs, the MyCC Cyber Warrior Program (CWP) stood out because of the strong curriculum and hands-on training offered. I determined it was the right step for me to provide the foundation I needed to to move into the world of IT and cybersecurity. After all, I wanted more than just a job, I wanted a career where I could continually grow and learn new things.
(Editor’s note: The CWP is MyComputerCareer’s fastest employment-obsessed career program in our history. The program is 12-weeks in length, no prior experience is necessary, and the GI BillⓇ is accepted)
MyCC: Ok, so you jump into an intensive program that moves quickly and requires some real dedication and drive. How was the experience and what was your takeaway?
Chandler: Honestly it empowered me to push beyond my limits to realize I’m capable of achieving far greater things than I thought possible. The program provided the practical skills I needed to confidently jump into the IT field, but more importantly it showed me I could excel in the industry. So beyond just the technical training and knowledge gained, the CWP helped me gain confidence and instilled a belief in my potential for long-term career success.
MyCC: You earned all four CompTIA certifications during your time in the program which is a great big accomplishment, then you graduate. Tell us about what you’re up to now if you don’t mind.
Chandler: Thanks! Well, today I’m proud to say I’m working as an IT specialist, applying everything I’ve learned and continuing to grow professionally. I’ve transitioned from an entirely different field of work into a career where I not only solve problems, but also contribute to protecting vital systems and networks. Each day I take on new challenges that reinforce my belief in my ability to succeed in cybersecurity. I’m also pursuing further education to continue advancing my career. My determination, along with the foundation MyComputerCareer provided, allowed me to go from wondering what I could do with my love of computers to making a real impact in the IT field.
Thank you Chandler for sharing your amazing journey! #WeAreIT
