How to Get a Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Networking Certificate

How to Get a Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Networking Certificate

Starting a new career path after you’ve been in a certain field for some time is not easy. The best way to begin this process is to take certification classes that will give you the technical training you need to pass the certification exam. Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Networking is one such certification path to take. Becoming a technology specialist that is MTA certified leads to a lucrative career in technology. This examination is by no means easy, so if you’ve set your sights on starting a career in the IT industry, you must prepare well. MyComputerCareer offers MTA certification training to help you ace the exam. But first, let’s take a closer look at the Microsoft Technology Associate Networking course and certification.

What is the Microsoft Technology Associate Networking Certificate?

To become a Microsoft Technology Associate, also known as MTA, you need a better understanding of Microsoft certification, which is organized into three tracks – IT Infrastructure, Database, and Development. The Networking Fundamentals certificate is a part of the IT Infrastructure track.

Certifications training for MTA Networking is designed to test your understanding of three core concepts – network infrastructures, network hardware, and protocols and services. The ideal candidate should already have some hands-on experience with network management tools, Windows Server, and so on, but these are not necessary prerequisites.

Who Should Consider the MTA Networking Certificate?

The MTA Networking certificate is the perfect examination for candidates looking to learn MTA networking fundamentals. Successfully passing this examination will show potential employers that you have a firm understanding of how information transfers through networking technologies like the internet, intranet, extranet, local area networks, wide area networks, wireless networking, network topology, and access methods.

You will also build foundational knowledge in networking concepts like the OSI model, IP addressing, Internet Protocols, information security, and more.

What to Expect from the Exam

The MTA Networking examination is just like any other MTA exam and follow the same exam policies. It is computer-based and lasts about 40-50 minutes. Candidates can expect to have approximately 30-40 questions on the exams. Candidates that are well prepared will have more than enough time to carefully go through the examination and even review questions they have marked.

When it comes to the process of taking the exam, candidates can expect the following scenario at the testing center. Administrators will log them into their computers. Once they are in, the testing software will show the policies and the NDA (non-disclosure agreement). Once they accept the terms, you will be shown how to answer questions. Candidates that are brand new to MTA exams should take the time to read this. Keep in mind that this will not count as part of your 40-50-minute time limit. Once you go through it, you will need to press start and begin taking the exam.

What Happens If You Fail the Exam?

Candidates that do not pass the MTA Networking exam will have to wait 24 hours before retaking the test. If they are unable to pass the examination a second time, they will have to wait seven days before taking the exam again. The number of attempts per MTA certification is limited to 5 attempts per year.

How Can I Get the MTA Networking Certificate?

The only way to get the certificate is by applying for and passing the examination. This process is quite simple – all you have to do is go to the official Microsoft website and follow the steps outlined there. However, to make sure you pass the exam (and do so with flying colors), you’ll likely need to prepare. For this, you’ll have several options.

Self-studying might seem like the most viable and logical option at first. You can set your own pace, spend more time on the things you find difficult, and choose the learning method that suits you best. It seems great on paper, but what practice has shown is that this is the method that yields the worst results.

The main problem with this method is that lack of professional instruction can leave you with knowledge gaps that you won’t recognize until you take the exam. It’s also quite common to slack off when there’s no one to supervise your progress. So what are the other options?

Microsoft Certification Training

Microsoft offers several resources to help their trainees become certified professionals by preparing them for the MTA Networking certification examination. There are two instructor-led fundamentals courses, lasting three and five days. Aside from those, there is also a practice test you can take to get a feel of what the exam questions will look like.

Although Microsoft provides resources for studying the different topics covered in the exam, the fine print says that these resources do not necessarily cover the whole subject matter you need to know to pass the test. That is why there is yet another option you should consider – MyComputerCareer.
