Roughly 2,500 people tuned in on YouTube on October 3 to cheer on 1,415 MyComputerCareer graduates at the school’s fall virtual ceremony. Family, friends, and MyCC team members packed the comments as each graduate’s name and photo hit the screen. The class included students from the ITSA, Cyber Security Specialist (CSS), Cyber Security Engineer (CSE), Cyber Warrior, and Associate Degree programs across MyComputerCareer campuses and online cohorts nationwide.
What Happens at a MyComputerCareer Graduation?
CEO Amy Onuska opened the ceremony with a challenge: “This ceremony isn’t the finish line. It’s your starting block. You’re joining an industry that desperately needs your skills and fresh perspective.”
“Some of you studied late into the night after putting the kids to bed,” Onuska said. “Others carved out study time between shifts. Many of you faced personal challenges that made you question if this success was even possible. But here you are.”
In his remarks, Founder and Chairman Tony Galati praised the class for reaching this important day. “While others stayed stuck complaining about their situation, you chose action. You chose to bet on yourself. And that bet has paid off.”
“Put those certifications on your wall,” Galati told the class. “Show your children, present and future, what it means to set a goal and achieve it, no matter how difficult the path.”
Does MyComputerCareer Support You After Graduation?
Short answer: yes, for life. Director of Alumni Services Kelly Dowling told the class that their relationship with MyComputerCareer’s career services team doesn’t end at the ceremony.
“Whether you’re looking to polish your resume next month, prepare for an interview next year, or explore a completely new IT path five years from now, we’re here for you,” Dowling said. “No expiration date.”
That includes lifetime access to resume support, interview coaching, and pathways to advanced programs like Cyber Security Specialist (CSS), Cyber Security Engineer (CSE), and the Associate Degree program.
One Graduate’s Journey
The day before the ceremony, June graduate Richard Reichert joined the Get Into IT Live broadcast to share his story. After 15 years in professional kitchens (including the Art Institute of Chicago), Reichert enrolled in the ITSA program, taking evening classes three nights a week while working full time.
“I keep getting turned down for all these tech support jobs,” Reichert said. “The only feedback (I received was) that I don’t have certifications. I didn’t even know this huge world of certifications existed.”
He earned his CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Linux Essentials, and both AWS certifications. Today, he works as a software support representative supporting law firms on a billing and practice management platform. No more 60-80 hour work weeks. He’s already self-studying for CompTIA Linux+ because, as he put it, “The certifications are kind of like Pokemon. You got to catch them all.”
His advice: “The program gives you the tools, the knowledge, and all the help you need, but you have to show up and do the work. If you do, it’s worth it.”
Watch Richard share details of his journey
So far in 2026, MyCC students and graduates have collectively earned more than 6,100 IT certifications. This graduating class joins 35,000+ total alumni since the school opened its doors in 2007.
