What Is MyComputerCareer Really Like?

From Skeptic to IT Professional

I heard about MyComputerCareer on various radio ads and had seen a few television commercials. I was quite skeptical. Years ago, I had attempted a different IT program at another college and saw no success from that program. However, looking back on the school and that past experience, I now realize that I never had the right tools or resources to be successful. I have only been at MyComputerCareer’s Online campus for a few months and I can see the differences already.

From the Beginning

I made an appointment with MyComputerCareer and decided to take a tour of the local campus. After walking through campus and listening to the the opportunities available at MyComputerCareer, I left campus that day without making any commitments and figured that I wouldn’t hear again from anyone at the campus, since I didn’t sign up.

I was pleasantly surprised that within a week or so, I heard from the MyComputerCareer team to follow up.  I decided to take the chance and give it a try. I attended the online start party (resource to help students with the online campus technologies) and went through student orientation. I have to say…I was overwhelmed and thought, “How am I ever going to get through this and be successful?”  More questions started circling in my head, “How am I going to get this homework done? How am I going to pass these certification tests? Am I just wasting my time again?”

My First Class

After the first class with my Instructor, I was blown away.  I felt at ease and more comfortable with every class attended. I was again, pleasantly surprised, at all of the resources available to me to ensure my success. I also immediately saw first-hand how my Instructor, as well as my Success Coordinator showed genuine care for me and the other students. You can tell that they want nothing more than to see us succeed and that we aren’t just a number.

My First Certification…and First Certification Fail!

Finally, the day came and it was time for me to take my first industry standard certification test. I was really nervous and terrified. I had studied, completed the assignments and was confident that I had enough information available to take the test. I scheduled the test, went in and took it. Guess what…I came really, really, really close but I didn’t pass. I spoke to the MyComputerCareer team and received the support and resources that I needed. They broke the certification exam down and showed me exactly where my successes were, as well as what I needed to keep working on, so that I could pass the exam. I did exactly what they told me to do and after studying the areas that I needed to work on, I tried again. Guess what…I PASSED my first certification!

As soon as I passed my first certification, I had confidence like never before. I was so elated to pass this test. I walked right out of the testing room on the Charlotte MyComputerCareer campus, where I took my test, into the main lobby and rang the certification bell. It was amazing. The campus staff, Instructors and students came out from their classrooms and offices to congratulate me. Even though I was an online student, and hadn’t met a lot of them, I was still part of their MyComputerCareer family! I have used this experience to motivate myself each and every time I have to go in and take a test or complete homework.

Right Here and Right Now

I believe with my whole heart that every Instructor and team member cares about each and every student that signs up for classes at MyComputerCareer.  I started in mid-January of this year and graduate in November. I am a little over half-way done with my program and I am on a roll. I have already successfully passed FIVE certification exams!  This isn’t the time to slow down or take it easy, my future depends on this experience and what I make of it. I am now more determined than ever.  Being successful at MyComputerCareer can be done and it is easier than I ever expected. You just have to put in the work and do what your Instructors tell you to do. The tools available for my future are brighter than ever and my success will be too. I can’t thank MyComputerCareer enough for so quickly giving me the positive life change that I needed.
